Diurnes is a piece for trio and electronics. The composition is based on a rearrangement of the compositional material of F. Chopin’s Nocturnes using artificial intelligence. In the compositional environment created by the author, Chopin’s scores, previously segmented into voices and phrases, are recombined by a principle of auto-completion. The trio is accompanied by an electronic instrument called the SpatialSamplerXR. The trio delivers samples that are arranged in space and reconvened in real time by a performer wearing a virtual reality headset. Diurnes, freely inspired by Chopin’s Nocturnes, creates a dialogue between past and present, real and virtual, day and night.
